He pitched at Higginsville, Richmond, St. Joseph, MO and in Nebraska and numerious small tournaments all over Northwest Missouri.
He was instrumental in establishing and running several small tournaments all over the northwest area such as Trenton, Jamesport, Gilman City and others.
Cotton was instrumental in running the tournaments at Gilman City for 6 or 7 years, 3 beside the school in the grass and then moving to the baseball field.
In the tournament at Gilman City in the 1970's, he was a forerunner of the portable courts by making his own portable courts on the baseball field.
He built approximately 8 courts in the city park at Jamesport. Cotton was responsible for building these originally in the late 1980's or early 1990. He re-did those courts with clay instead of dirt.
Cotton joined the National Horseshoe Pitching Association in approximately 1968. He received his 20 year patch in 1989.
