1974 Missouri State Tournament

After almost unbearable hot weather, the Missouri State Tournament opened on Friday, August 23rd with a light drizzle of rain which completely stopped play by 10:00 a.m., around 2:00 p.m. we got underway once again under very trying conditions with wet footing and sticky mud. The play of Saturday was under ideal conditions. Dave Baker emerged as champion after pulling two games out of the 48 hole, one with Charles Killgore and the other with Don Harris. Baker has been the State Champion every year since 1966 excluding 1970 when Lillard Pinion was crowned champion.

Classes were reorganized from previous years and two more classes were added. We played host to over 100 pitchers plus two classes of Junior's and two classes of Senior's. All classes, except the Championship Divisions were played under a new system, we used 50 shoe games and point options, meaning the player in the lead at 50 shoes had to score a winning point.
