1971 Missouri State Tournament

The 1971 State Horseshoe Pitching Tournament was the largest one ever held in Missouri. It was the first time that we could not accomodate all the entries. Every section of the state was represented.

The state officers and general membership congratulated the Higginsville Club for their large club (largest in Missouri) and for getting new courts with lights in the city park. The superintendent wishes to thank the sponsors of trophies for the 1971 State Fair, namely Ray Cavin of St. Joseph, LaMonte Community Bank, J.F. Leslie of Raytown, Winston's Angus Farm and S & M Sporting Goods of Sedalia. All other trophies were furnished by the State Fair.

The annual meeting of the state association was held during the Fair, the following officers were elected: Earl Winston-President, Charles Killgore-Vice-President and Jim Acock-Secretary/Treasurer.

Our Junior's Division saw some new names and a new champion was crowned in 1971, the association was happy about their enthusiasm and participation.
